This program prepares students to become members of a health care team in a dental setting. The course includes theory with demonstrations and classroom instruction. Students receive supervised experience performing procedures using study models, mannequins, and other simulated methods. Students are required to complete three months of supervised experience in a clinical setting—assisting procedures on dental patients in a dental office.

How to Apply for the Dental Assisting Program
Thank you for your interest in the Dental Assisting Program at Tennessee College of Applied Technology Nashville (TCAT Nashville).
The Dental Assisting Program is highly competitive, and only a select number of students are enrolled each class.
To qualify, an applicant must pass the HESI test with minimum scores of Math -20 and Reading-60.
If you have already taken the HESI test within the past two years, we will accept the scores. HESI test scores are only valid for two years.
ACT Scores of 17 or higher will be accepted in place of the HESI test. ACT Scores must be within the past two years.
Upon passing the HESI test or submitting ACT scores, you will be emailed the Dental Assisting Application Packet for the September 2020 class.

NOTE: Passing the HESI test or submitting ACT scores does not guarantee admissions. The Dental Assisting class will be selected from the highest scores on the above-mentioned test.
Applicants must complete the Dental Assisting Application Packet. The application packet can be obtained from the Allied Health Department or via email. To request packet by email, contact Vickey Myatt at email provided below.
The following will be required for enrollment into the program:
- Proof of Education: Submit one of the following:
- High School Transcript or HS Diploma
- College Transcript
- GED Certificate/Scores
- Proof of MMR, Varicella and Hepatitis B Vaccines
- Dental Assisting Packet (the packet must be complete to be accepted)
- Complete on-line application to the school.
Class meets Monday through Thursday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., while in class. Clinical will begin in the 3rd trimester of the program. Clinical hours vary based on the site you will be attending. Clinical hours are subject to change, clinical is mandatory to complete the program.
Cost of Training
For the costs of the Dental Assisting Program, please refer to the expense sheet available on the school website. The costs include tuition, textbooks, supplies, and tools required for the program.
NOTE: Uniforms, textbooks and supplies are required for the first day of class.
