Practical Nursing


This program is approved by the Tennessee Board of Nursing. The Nursing program prepares individuals to become members of a nursing team in hospitals, long term health care facilities, doctors’ offices, outpatient clinics, and home health care. Students are required to complete supervised clinical experiences in all areas of nursing care. NEXT CLASS – July 2018 (Prerequisites) Only

Prior to receiving an application for the January 2019 Practical Nursing program, applicants are required to take and pass the pre-requisites of Anatomy & Physiology and Dosage Calculations.

The prerequisites will be offered starting July 2018. Upon successfully passing the prerequisites, applicants will receive an application packet for the January 2019 Practical Nursing program.

The first step to apply is to attend an Information Session. It is mandatory that you attend one of the following sessions to be eligible to enroll in the pre-requisites courses. The session will last approximately one hour. The following dates are available:

  • Monday, April 16, 2018 @ 10:00 a.m.
  • Tuesday, April 17, 2018 @ 1 p.m. (Portland Campus Only)
  • Monday, May 14, 2018 @ 10:00 a.m.
  • Tuesday, May 15, 2018 @ 1 p.m. (Portland Campus Only)
  • Monday, June 11, 2018 @ 10:00 a.m.
  • Tuesday, June 12, 2018 @ 1 p.m. (Portland Campus Only)

During the session, we will discuss class schedules for prerequisites, preregistration dates, fees, and other vital information pertaining to the Practical Nursing program.

The session will be held in the Douglas Henry Building, Room 229/231. Parking is available in the back of the campus. Please do not park in faculty/staff or visitor parking.

Due to new construction on our campus, parking is limited. We have a designated area for overflow parking at Nashville State Community College. The parking lot designated for our campus is located in the far back corner of their parking lot. Please do not park in any other area than what is designated for TCAT Nashville.

NOTE: Seats are limited to 75 people per session. In the event seats are filled, we will have a second session immediately following the first. The door will close promptly at 10:00 a.m. in order to start the meeting on time.

Please do not bring children to the meeting. For their safety, children are not allowed to sit in the breakroom unattended. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.

Care for ill, injured, or convalescing patients or persons with disabilities in hospitals, nursing homes, clinics, private homes, group homes, and similar institutions. May work under the supervision of a registered nurse. Licensing required.
